About The MUSIC COOP™

The Music Coop is an artist-owned distribution platform and cooperative network designed to give musicians full control over their work, their income, and their creative future. Built on democratic and not-for-profit principles, it replaces the exploitative structures of the traditional music industry with transparent, artist-driven governance.

Through The Music Coop, artists can upload, distribute, and monetize their music, videos, and merchandise directly to fans—keeping 100% of their sales revenue (minus processing fees) and earning credits for every stream, view, and engagement. These credits translate directly into income or can be used to access cooperative services such as promotion, mastering, or tour support. Artists collectively vote on policies, platform upgrades, and revenue models, ensuring that all decisions reflect the interests of the creators themselves.

The platform also empowers Public User-Consumers (PUCs)—listeners and fans—to play an active role. Fans can create and monetize playlists, support artists directly through crowdfunding tools, and share in the cooperative ecosystem that rewards engagement, discovery, and community participation rather than algorithms or corporate bias.

Revenues are shared fairly: 90% goes directly to artists, while 10% supports cooperative growth, technical infrastructure, artist development, and sustainable reinvestment. This structure ensures that both the art and the economy around it remain in the hands of those who make and love music.

Our sister organization, the Canadian Music Cooperative™ (CMC), acts as the professional recording, publishing, and label arm of The Music Coop. CMC provides cooperative studio production, manufacturing, and worldwide distribution under fair, transparent contracts—allowing artists to maintain full ownership of their masters and publishing while benefiting from shared resources and promotional reach.

Together, The Music Coop and CMC form a complete ecosystem for independent musicians—a democratic alternative to the corporate music industry, where ownership, equity, and creativity are finally aligned.
